AIRBOURNE - "Running Wild" - 2007 - Roadrunner

I'm going to try hard not to make this a review about the music scene and focus on the band, but it's going to be hard. First off, Airbourne's a killer band, they're no-nonsense strait up rock and their getting national attention. But I'm not understanding why now, has the 80's AC/DC style finally been gone long enough for the pretentious music media to give it attention? I know of a number of bands that have had this style in the past 5 years that get more criticism than praise. "Bang The Union" and "Boned" come to mind, simply pawned off as AC/DC ripoffs by the mainstream. Hell, even "The Darkness" was looked upon as a novelty, yet this band is getting pretty decent airplay and they sound like all the AC/DC clones from the past 20+ years!

Having said all that, I'm not complaining, I happen to believe AC/DC's style SHOULD be emulated as often as possible, and this band does it as good as anyone. I'm just keep wondering "why now???". OH well, enough contemplating. This CD does kick some serious ass! It's perfect for crankin' at the party and hopefully you'll hear this from the car stereos instead of rap in the future. I think the teens now are getting it more than the kids did 10 years ago. This is their band too, not a bunch of 50 year olds their parents listened to.

The title track and the first release "Too Young, Too Fast, Too Soon" and others like "Blackjack" make this album one of the strongest debut's I've heard in awhile. They aren't reinventing the wheel by any means, but they aren't following any trends either and it really shows through. I would have called this commercial suicide but maybe finally we've grown tire of the overly serious Nickelback's of the work are are getting ready to ROCK AGAIN!!
