BEGGARS
BALL - "1321" - 2007 |
Goddammit, this is what rock is all about, down and dirty, grinding guitars, sleazy vocals, pounding drums and bass and subject matter that only real rockers can relate to. That's Beggars Ball in a nutshell. One could say they have return to the Skid Row/GNR heyday of the 80's, but they have a new sound to them along the same lines as new bands like Saliva (without the annoy rap thank God!). On their second release they've done something interesting. The first half of the album is plugged in and the second half is the same songs unplugged in a live setting. Normally I'm not an "uplugged" kinda guy but they way they ripped into the tunes was very impressive. The 5 songs on this album are worth an entire release, there's no fillers, they all kick just as hard as the next. I am a little concerned about the overall production, the drums sounded a bit muddy and I wanted a bit more separation in the instruments. I did like the "raw" sound of course, which fit the band's persona, but I would like to see them with a bigger budget next time around.
