JORN - "The Gathering" - 2008

Everytime I listen to Jorn's material I am simply amazed. He has the amazing ability to channel David Coverdale and Steven Perry at will. Having said that, he also has his own style in song-writing that has taken that 70's and 80's sound to this millenium. If you've never heard him before or his work in Masterplan, this is a great place to start. "The Gathering" is a collection of songs he's re-recorded for various reasons. All the songs have also been digitally remastered by the brilliant Tommy Hansen as well so you are getting 16 superb quality tracks. I felt like this equalled a few albums just because of the number of amazing songs. Fans of AOR, Power Metal and Prog-Metal will find material they'll love on this one. He's taken material from his 4 solo albums so you get a good variety of songs.

"Young Forever" showed up on this one, which surprised me a bit, I loved the original from 2004's "Out To Every Nation", but I'm not complaining, now I have 2 versions to enjoy. There was new versions of One Day We Will Put Out The Sun" and "Something Real" from that same album.. He also re-recorded "Worldchanger" from his 2001 release of the same name as well as numerous other tracks from that album, apparently he wasn't overly happy with the original. I was happy to hear improvements on "Abyss Of Evil" from his first album, if nothing else the recording was better.

Overall, this is a great retrospective of Jorn's material. You'll be hard pressed to find too many releases nowadays with this much quality material on it.

JORN - "Out To Every Nation" - AFM RECORDS - 2004

Jorn Lande continues to show why he's one of the premiere Rock/Metal artists in the world with his latest effort "Out To Every Nation". He continues to expand the boundaries of Melodic rock with blockbusters like "Living With Wolves" and "Young Forever". The music is dark and heavy but blends perfectly with his melodic voice and great writing ablities. At times his lyrics are a bit predictable, like on "Rock Spirit", but generally his writing is very good. He has a theme going throughout the album that has obviously been caused by the war and other world events, which is timely, but does get a bit depressing. Despite my personal thoughts, this album is great for the hard rock genre, it's emotional and thought-provoking, which should keep the critics at bay for the most part. Overall a solid effort with a great variation of music. Jorn is definately a premiere artist in Rock.
