MONSTER MAGNET - "4 Way Diablo" - 2007 - SPV

As hard as I've tried Monster Magnet's latest release just doesn't do much for me, it lacks the spark and punch of their previous works. The lyrics are stil there, so is the creativity (perhaps more than ever), but the songs just aren't there. I personally loved 2004's "Monolithic Baby!", the album that brought them from a major to an indie. "Monolithic" and "4 Way Diablo" display the band in more realistic true form, raw and real, but "4 Way Diablo" is more alternative and indie sounding while "Monolithic" was just a kick-ass rock record. You won't find anything as powerful as "Powertrip" as the production is much different. This album is really pretty laid back with only a handful of tunes that really rock very hard. It's more psychedelic that Stoner, which for some might be just fine, but for me personally, I like miss the ball's out fuel-injected version of the band.
