RESISTANCE - "Patents Of Control" - 2007 - Lion
Music |
For those who never grow tired of the conceptual albums cranked out by the Power/Prog Metal bands, this is another one for the collection. I'm pleased to hear these guys are from the States, this type of presicion and song-writing has generally been heard in Europe. Resistance really fits under a few sub-genres, Power Metal, Prog-Metal and Thrash are what I'm mostly hearing. What I appreciated most was the hooks and gang-vocal choruses. I've heard so many Metal albums that blend together, they managed to separate themselves. What they seem to realized that just playing fast and furious doesn't make a memorable album. Back to the concept of the album. I'm generally not a fan of this style of writing, it's not that I don't enjoy it, but when I have to listen to so much music, it's hard to sit and appreciate the writing of a concept album. The story is very interesting actually, it deals with a New World Society and patents, which the conspiracy theorists will love sinking their teeth into. Overall a very solid effort top to bottom. Neil Kernon produced the album so you know the quality is there. I really felt like these guys separated themselves from the pack on this one.
