Ireland's
Fireland has proven that traditional Metal indeed has life and
a strong future. I've been critical of the cookie-cutter Power
Metal sound coming out lately but then along comes a fresh sound
like Fireland to reknew my faith in Metal. They don't try to
overpower you but rather let the music speak for itself. Vocalist
Andrew Baxter doesn't try to be Rob Halford, but rather delivers
the vocals more like something you'd hear on a Blue Oyster Cult
album. The guitars are indeed metal, featuring the duo from
the brilliant Riffmaster General. Jamie Johnston and Steve Moore
sound effortlessly as they tear into each song full of complex
riffs and solos. Fireland may indeed the type of band to bridge
the modern American Metal and the more traditional European
sound. Songs like "In Her Strong Arms" contain everything
from a nice AOR-style chorus to a brutal style delivery that
you hear amonst the modern Metal bands. From the Epic "Betrayed
In The Night" and strait up "God Of Love", this
is a brilliant release that needs to be heard by metalheads
young and old.
