LIQUID GRAVEYARD - "On Evil Days" - 2009 - My Kingdom Music

Right off the first listen you can tell this is going to be a slightly different experience then most metal bands. The band gives off the vibe of a gothic metal band, but also a more progressive death metal band. The music itself is dark and gloomy a big player with gothic music. On other songs the riffs are bludgeoning and unrelenting. The speed on the album isn’t at a very fast pace. The guitar work on the album is down tuned quite a bit and is very slow and sludgy. Guitar solos are absent throughout most of the album. Nothing too special coming from the guitar work pretty standard, but this is not a bad thing. The drums are slow also and not technical or amazing. The bass is inaudible, but most bands are like this. The vocals are a pretty standout part of the music. Raquel Walker sings with both clean vocals and harsh. The clean vocals would attract fans of Sirenia or Tarja Nightwish Era. The harsher vocal side would attract people that are fans of Angela Gossow from Arch Enemy. The harsh vocals fit the music perfectly. The clean vocals on the other hand seem out of place and don’t really fit in well with the music. If she were to sing in harsh throughout the entire album this album would be a winner. Overall the musical quality mixed with the vocals is pretty standard nothing new or groundbreaking it’s a little different and mixes gothic with death but other then that it’s a pretty basic release. If you are a fan of Nightwish, Sirenia, Arch Enemy or even The Agonist.
