Spider
Rockets are one of those bands that can fit a variety of genres
and play along side many different styles of bands depending
which songs they play and how you market them. Lead singer Helena
has a very versatile voice, she can do the darker stuff or the
more melodic material. The music itself is on the darker and
serious side, with traces of Metal and a more alternative sound
at times. It's honestly hard to put an sub-genre on them, they're
Modern Rock, plain and simple.
Back
to my original thought of how they could play along side a variety
of styled bands. I can see them Nickelback or Hinder, but, they
wouldn't even be out of place with the Hair bands. They are
really that diverse. The question is, does this diversity help
or hurt them? Well, that's hard to say, their live show is apparently
quite intense, Helena is a very strong front-person. So once
you've seen them live you will be a fan. I have to say alot
(not all) of that energy is apparent on this release. The production
and sound is superb! Some songs are a bit deep for me personally,
but if you're into music with strong lyrics and substance you'll
love the band. In fact, I doubt anyone who likes Rock or Metal
will find much to dislike (unless you have a problem with female
vocals).
I
hate to use the cliche of "you have to listen for yourself",
but you really should decide for yourself. Spider Rockets are
one of those groups that is easy to like, the musicianship is
there, the songs are there and they aren't afraid to get out
there and tour. You have to appreciate what the band has to
offer.
